Outdoors in Ashland

Ashland has a large city park, a mountain on its southern edge and the start of a long paved trail.

Lithia Park

According to Wikipedia, Lithia Park covers 93 acres, 42 of them on the National Register of Historic Places, and was designed by John McLaren, the landscape architect of San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. The City of Ashland runs it and says dogs are not allowed in Lithia Park. Check the city's parks pages for rules, permits and accessibility options.

Mount Ashland

Mount Ashland rises to 7,533 feet in the Siskiyou Mountains south of the city. The Mt. Ashland Ski Area, at 11 Mt. Ashland Ski Road, is run by the Mt. Ashland Association, a nonprofit serving the community since 1964. Its site lists the winter operating schedule and summer activities. Season dates change, so check mtashland.com.

Bear Creek Greenway

The Bear Creek Greenway is a paved path of roughly 18 miles that follows Bear Creek between Ashland and Central Point, passing through Talent, Phoenix and Medford. It begins in Ashland near West Nevada and Helman streets. Its project site says a completed "close the gap" segment will bring it to nearly 20 miles. See bearcreekgreenway.com.
